In this new book, Minimally Invasive Surgery for Esophageal Cancer, a series of high-quality articles on MIE were collected with the aim to provide a comprehensive and systematic review on MIE. In the first chapter of the book, an overview of MIE is given, covering topics such as the current status of MIE, along with MIE’s technical aspects and clinical outcomes. A description of practice experiences in MIE from international centers like the Moffitt Cancer Center and the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, are some of the chapter’s highlights. The second chapter outlines how leading experts in the field all around the world apply MIE. The last two chapters are papers which respectively discuss the minimally invasive surgical management of chylothorax complicating esophagectomy, and neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy.

Despite the tremendous advances in minimally invasive surgical technique, the treatment of esophageal carcinoma remains challenging, and efforts to further improve surgical outcomes are essential. We hope the book can enable surgeons and other interested readers to stay abreast of the latest developments in MIE, and engender a better understanding of this promising approach.
